Welcome! 👋
Whew! These last two weeks have been a whirlwind! 😳 Lots of travel (which I'm both grateful for and feeling very, very rusty at!), lots of events, and lots of meeting up with friends and colleagues! Apologies for being so very far behind on the newsletter and thanks for understanding. ❤️
Without further ado, let's dive into the content...
Best,

Tidbits 🕔
Build a Lasting Relationship Through Enablement
DevRel is a win-win for everyone when these 3 things happen:
1) You build the right relationships.
2) You help your company be successful.
3) And most importantly, you're helping developers.
But, how do you make this happen?
Enablement.

Preventing Burnout
A lot of this week's tweets circled around the topic of burnout, which tells me people are either feeling burned out after an overwhelmingly busy few months, or trying to strengthen their burnout prevention muscles in preparation for busy months to come. Either way, you should keep these pieces of advice in mind:
As community builders we tend to get overwhelmed with work and plan our day and still don't find anything finished at the end of the day.
Plan your day's tasks so that at the end of the day, you have some results.
Less but impactful and in the direction of progress.
It's been a while, but we are very much into full conference mode again in devrel land, so it might be a good time to remember that while there are lots of enjoyable moments, it is also hard work.
16 hour days.
Formal presentations.
Booth work.
Always being "on" all the time. This is not to discount the immense privilege that this work provides. It's to provide some balance when you see the updates of where people are.
The picture from the seaside? That's probably from the few minutes the person snuck out of the conference to get some fresh air.
Community building isn't easy. You put a lot of yourself into what you do because it's centered around people.
Especially in business, this can be at odds with well, the business.
So dear #cmgr, make sure you're listening to yourself & set boundaries. 💜

Understanding Community-led Growth
If you've been hearing a lot about the term "community-led growth" lately, you're not alone! Common Room has put together a great series of resources around community-led growth, including these two:
8 Travel Tips for Developer Advocates (and Other Tech Roles)
As in-person conferences start to return, we're all working to build our travel muscles back up again. For some, it's been easy! For others of us, we've found ourselves buying toothpaste, shampoo, or charging cables on the road, or walking away from conferences at the end of the day feeling more than a little run-down because we forgot to check in with our internal batteries. This article from Mia Moore is helpful for setting boundaries, understanding a reasonable travel budget, and how to make work travel fun when you're getting tired (physically and mentally).
