Build the Community? Or the Forum?

Some weekend #DevRel musings -
Can you build a community? or does the community first exist, and then you build the communication forum around it?

I often make the point myself when others bring up "it's our community" that there's a big difference between an Audience and a Community

Resist the Urge

Dear #CommunityManager and #moderator, always resist the urge to work on too many projects at the same time.

Every project requires quality time from you so stop giving out half-baked services cos of some $$$.

Respect your agreement. 2-3 projects are OK.

User Preferences Can Change

User preferences can change due to various factors — time of the year, global events, festivals, etc. If a strategy shows good results today, there's no guarantee it will do the same after a month. Identifying the real reason of success & failure is key to growth

Adjust content according to your community
1. Experiment a mix of different formats that are relevant to your members & brand - images, video, documents, text
2. Use multiple types of content - guides, memes, polls
3. Observe what works when to identify what your users like
